Google To Purchase Chelsea Building For New York Headquarters

New Google NY Headquarters

Google will shell out more than $2 billion to buy the building that houses the Chelsea Market, the New York Post reports.

The tech giant — which is already the largest tenant in the building at 75 Ninth Ave., where it shares space with the famed food hall, Major League Baseball and the Food Network — is buying the 1.2 million-square-foot office-and-retail property from Jamestown, The Real Deal reported.

Google already leases about 400,000 square feet of space in the building, making it the largest tenant, and plans to force some of the other tenants out, the real estate Web site reported.

The company’s current New York headquarters at 111 Eighth Ave. is across the street from the market.
